Meditation quite is futile without practice of continence or moderation. If you cannot first control your senses, there is to be no victory over your mind. Here are few tips that help me, and i hope will help you to meditate.
1.Practice Daily
Make a commitment you can keep.Even if it’s 5 minutes every day, consistency is far more important than intensity. You must stay with it on a daily basis to actualize the holistic experience that it delivers.
2.Start Small
Start very small, just 2 minutes. You can start with very short sessions initially, staying for as little as for 3-5 minutes to begin. Start with 2 or 3 minutes at a time and work your way up. You can add a minute each day or even a minute each week.
Note: Our 21st century mind easily distracted and we have a disadvantage keeping the mind centered on one thing.
3.Get comfortable
Let your body determine how you sit. If sitting hurts your back sit on a cushion or a chair or whatever helps you. Choose a position that makes you comfortable.
I recommend investing in a good meditation cushion to sit on. If you don’t have one, a pillow works nicely.
4.Focus on Breathing
Start with an intention to focus on the breath, but don’t worry too much about the results. Start by focusing on the breath deep and slow. This kind of breathing slows down one’s heart rate, puts you in a relaxed state, and focuses the mind.
5.Expect to Think
Know that your mind will have a lot of thoughts popping in and out. So many begginers have a difficult time queleting their mind to meditate. Know that this is very normal!
Note: Take three deep breaths ( inhaling and holding for a few seconds into your belly, then exhale). Do this anytime you still find your thoughts distracting.
6. Pick Your Space
It’s about using virtuals to experience what is sacred. Try to be consistent with that same location. Select a quite place and make sure that you will not be disturbed during your meditation.
